Crawling through the mud under barbwire, scaling three metre high walls, and carrying 35-kilogram sand bags, sounds like something out of an army training camp right?

Well, this extreme form of exercise is no longer just for soldiers.

“Obstacle racing” is a new sport growing in popularity around the world, including here in New Zealand.

A TV crew from Newshub was on-location at the Wairua Warrior in Nelson to capture the event on film, including interviewing 1st place elite finisher Brakken Kraker, 2nd place elite finisher Ethan Helliwell and race organiser Greg Witika.
