The Wairua Winter Warrior Team Relay Challenge will feature a unique trophy.

Hand carved by local master carver Mark Davis using native timber, taken from the land where the race is held, the tiaha showcases the Maori heritage and values which inform the Wairua Warrior series of events.

The tiaha will be awarded to the top team at the Wairua Winter Warrior Team Relay Challenge this August.

The trophy was on display at the Wairua Warrior earlier this year where we snapped the following photo,

Race Organiser Greg Witika describes the trophy as a taonga embodying the values of OCR and the Wairua Warrior, including teamwork, unity and strength.

The Wairua Winter Warrior Team Relay Challenge is a team-based challenge from the Wairua Warrior held August 12 in Nelson.
