The 2017 Moa New Zealand Tough Guy and Gal Championship took place 26th August at the last Tough Guy and Gal Challenge in Rotorua.

Tough Guy and Gal Championship 2017 starting line

To qualify, the top 3 men and women from each age division in the 12km distance at each primary Tough Guy and Gal race around New Zealand, leading up to the final race, qualified to compete in the championship held in Rotorua.

The Tough Guy and Gal series is held at six locations around the country and was said to attract about 25,000 participants this year.

The course for the final events was 12km (comprised of two loops of a 6km course) over off-road terrain with various obstacles. The Tough Guy and Gal series does not include any obstacle penalties, such as for failure to complete or attempt obstacles.

2017 Championship Results

The winning time was 1:03:25 (30 seconds faster than last year), with an average course completion time of 1:27:51 (taken from participants from all divisions. About 8 minutes longer than last year).

This year has seen the first year of Obstacle Racers NZ reporting on results throughout the qualifying events and leading into the final championship.

Standing podium finishers have returned in their respective divisions, and newcomers have risen to take out some outstanding positions. Obstacle Racers NZ is excited for the 2018 season on the series.
