Podium Interviews

The Manawatu Standard spoke with first place, under 39, male and female winners following the event.

While managing to publish only two spelling mistakes in a paragraph, the Manawatu Standard wrote that Mona-Jana Hannemann found the wet and muddy conditions a shock, having come from tropical climes (sic) in Hawaii, but there wasn’t another competitor from her event within cooee (sic) when she finished. “The hardest part was right after you get out of the water. You’re completely out of breath and you want to walk, but I knew if I walked it would be harder to start running again.” said Mona-Jane.

MatakanaXrun highly recommended event

Angus McKelvie, last year’s winner as well as the 2017 Tough Guy and Gal Champion, said it was tough going, but luckily it wasn’t too cold. Notoriously understated, McKelvie said he went for “the odd run here and there” in preparation for the event.
