The New Zealand Spartan races for 2020 have been revealed. And not only are the events from Spartan’s inaugural year in NZ returning, but three new events have been announced!
Coming to Auckland, New Zealand in 2020:
- Spartan Sprint
- Spartan Super
- Spartan Kids
- Spartan Hurricane Heat
- Spartan New Zealand National Championship
The dates have been confirmed as July 25-26.
Revealed in Spartan’s 2020 event calendar, Auckland sees a much expanded offering of events. The Sprint and the Kids events make a return to Auckland, while new in 2020 will be the Super, (longer than the Sprint – 13km+ with 30+ obstacles and often hosted on a tougher terrain), and the Hurricane Heat (a 4 hour endurance event).
The Hurricane Heat is a 4 hour endurance event, “where you learn non-traditional problem solving, find endurance under duress, and experience the power of synergy. There are no timing chips and no bibs. There is no individual competition. Once immersed in the HH culture, you quickly find your “why” and a renewed sense of purpose for taking on this challenge. Each HH is a unique experience directly related to the individuality of the venue, as well as the cadre in charge. You will be challenged. As a team, you will succeed.”
In the fine text of the 2020 calendar, a New Zealand Championship event was revealed. At this stage, we don’t know further details. The event will likely be part of the Super or Sprint. How it ties into the Australian National Series is unknown.
We expect further details and registrations for the Auckland Spartan weekend to open soon.
