22 April - 23 April
New Zealand’s first national parkour and freerunning competition. Hosted by Honest Parkour in association with Flow Academy of Motion.
The competition will be held over the full two days of the event and will consist of qualifiers (open entry), heats (top 16 athletes from qualifiers) and finals (top 8 athletes from heats) in three different categories. These categories cater for three general methods of training in parkour and freerunning; speed, skill and style! Athletes can choose to compete in up to three of the categories, according to which they enjoy more!
Who can get from point A to point B in the least amount of time? Athletes will traverse a series of pre-determined courses throughout the speed rounds in order to prove who amongst them is the fastest. The final round will be a special 1v1 course, in which two athletes will race the same course at the same time.
Tip: As well as speed – training creativity, precision and agility within runs will help a lot in this one!
Skill (Years 17+ only):
Who can execute single movements with consistency and precision? Athletes will have a limited number of attempts to perform several pre-determined parkour-based movements. Achieving each movement with precision within a single attempt will be rewarded with maximum points, each attempt after dropping in points.
Tip: Your fundamentals are very important! Train your vaults, laches, strides, tacs and cats and of course stick your landings!
Who can create the most visually-stunning and most physically-challenging lines within a confined environment? Athletes will have up to 1 minute and 30 seconds to make their way through the course, performing tricks and stunts in order to overcome their own mental barriers and amaze their audience. Runs will be judged on flow, difficulty, execution and overall impression. There is also a prize for “best trick”!
Tip: The best runs have one or two difficult movements, tied into a seamless flow of creative movement. Showmanship can also go a long way for the overall impression!
