Tough Mudder is coming November 2017
Mud run enthusiasts around New Zealand are excited as Tough Mudder confirms a New Zealand event has been scheduled for November 2017.
The Tough Mudder New Zealand website went live earlier today. The location and dates of a Tough Mudder in New Zealand were published on the website as Auckland, 4 & 5th November 2017. At the time of writing this article, a link on the website to race registrations is given but does not function. However March 1st is listed as the official launch date for further information on the event.
Tough Mudder is a global obstacle racing series, easily among the largest and most recognisable in the industry. The obstacles used at Tough Mudder events often play on common human fears, such as fire, water, electricity and heights. The main principle of Tough Mudder events revolves around teamwork and camaraderie with participants pledging to commit to helping others complete the course, put teammates before themselves, and overcome fears.
Tough Mudder held an inaugural New Zealand event at the Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, Auckland in 2014. Participation reached more than 5,000, and early registrations for the following year were taken at the event. However in late 2014 Tough Mudder cancelled a return to New Zealand. In previous reporting from ORNZ last year, Tough Mudder’s Communication Manager Carol Gottshall said Tough Mudder’s resources for 2015 and 2016 were focused on the east coast of Australia, but Tough Mudder would not rule out a return to New Zealand in the future.
After cancellation in 2014 the Tough Mudder New Zealand Facebook went inactive, until January 2017 when teaser images hinting at a potential New Zealand event were posted. Some of the images can be seen embedded below,
We contacted Tough Mudder’s marketing and support departments for comment, but have thus far not received a response.
Registrations for the Tough Mudder New Zealand event opened two days after this article was originally published, on Thursday 9th February. Hampton Downs Motorsport Park was confirmed as the venue for the event, a return to the site used in the 2014 New Zealand race.
